For the land, and for the people who live next to it.
A tailings dump is a liability sitting on someone’s horizon. It blows dust, it sheds run-off, it holds land out of use and nobody is paid to fix it. Retreatment is one of the few ways that liability gets removed by an operation that funds itself, rather than by a rehabilitation budget that never quite arrives.
The dump is not capped or fenced. It is removed. What remains at the end is reshaped ground, not a managed structure somebody has to keep watching.
An uncovered dump generates dust every windy day. Working faces are wetted and rehabilitated areas are vegetated, so the source shrinks as the project advances.
Storm water is diverted around the working area and process water is recirculated in a closed circuit, which keeps both draw and discharge down.
No blasting, no new pit, no new haul network across untouched veld. The project works inside a footprint that was disturbed long before it arrived.
Operating roles are advertised to the surrounding communities before they go wider, through a single published recruitment channel rather than through gatekeepers.
Roles at full operation: [NUMBER OF POSITIONS]
Transport, catering, security, maintenance and civils are packaged at a size local enterprises can actually bid for, instead of being bundled into one contract only a major can hold.
Local procurement commitment: [TARGET]
Plant operation, maintenance, sampling and safety training are certificated, so the qualification stays with the person after the dump is finished.
Training programme detail: [PROGRAMME NAME / PARTNER]
Rehabilitated ground is reshaped to a stable profile, topsoiled and planted with indigenous species suited to the area. Aftercare continues past the last load of material: monitoring runs until vegetation has established and the surface is stable.
The agreed end use for the rehabilitated land is [AGREED POST-CLOSURE LAND USE].
Every complaint about dust, water, noise, traffic or conduct is logged with a date, a responsible person and a closing date, and the register is reported to the board. You can raise one by phone, by email or in person at the project office, and you will be told what came of it.
The project office takes community, supplier, media and investor enquiries on the same channel.
