Chrome tailings retreatment ยท Bushveld Complex, South Africa
Recovering what was left behind. Restoring the ground it sat on.
Project 1076 reprocesses historic chrome tailings – the material earlier mining crushed, washed and threw away. Modern recovery gets value out of it that the plants of the day could not, and the footprint it occupies is rehabilitated as the material comes off.
Everything Project 1076 works with is already on surface. The dumps were built by mining that happened decades ago, and they have been sitting in the landscape ever since. We move that material, recover the chrome still in it, and leave the site in better condition than we found it. No new pit. No new shaft. No new ground opened.
What the project stands on
Recovery, not extraction
The chrome comes out of material that has already been mined, crushed and discarded. The resource is the waste stream itself, which is why the project adds no new disturbance to the area.
Rehabilitation built in
Land restoration is part of the operating plan and its funding, not a promise held over to the end. As each block is cleared it is reshaped, covered and replanted, so rehabilitation follows the working face.
Local by default
Employment, contracting and supply are sourced from the surrounding communities first, with training provided where the skills are not yet in place.
Drill, sample and test the dump before anything moves.
02
Recover
Reclaim material in planned blocks, one working face at a time.
03
Process
Separate the chrome, recirculate the water, place the residue back.
04
Rehabilitate
Reshape, topsoil and replant cleared areas as the face advances.
05
Hand back
Monitor until the agreed standard is met and the land is signed off.
For the community
Questions about what happens next door
Dust, water, traffic, noise, jobs. The project office answers directly rather than through a form that goes nowhere, and holds open feedback sessions during operations.
Project 1076 is a formally constituted South African venture with a board, independent technical oversight and standard statutory reporting. An information pack is available on request.
